Washing Their Feet
Students may read John 13:1-17
On the night before Jesus died, he had a special supper with his disciples. While everyone was seated, Jesus got up from the table and poured water into a basin that was intended for foot washing. The disciples were amazed when they realized what was about to happen. Then, Jesus set the basin in front of Peter who declared, “You shall never wash my feet!” When Peter heard Jesus’ reply, he exclaimed, “Master, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”
Discussion Questions
At first, Peter refused to allow Jesus to wash his feet. Why? After Jesus washed the feet of all twelve disciples, he talked about what he had done. Can you explain why he washed their feet? We can follow Jesus by loving and serving one another.
