Week 9 of Year 2 "The Mustard Seed"

❖❖❖❖
The Mustard Seed

Students may read Matthew 13:31-32

One day, Jesus taught from a boat on the Sea of Galilee. The people on the shore heard him say, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man sowed in his field.” The seed is tiny, but the mustard plant grows so large that birds can come and sit in its branches. Jesus told other parables like this so people could easily remember and think about his teachings later. When the enemies of Jesus heard these parables, they couldn’t be sure about what he was saying.

Discussion Questions

What does this parable help us understand about the kingdom? What can people do to help the seed of the kingdom grow? We could think of the kingdom as the inner presence of God. Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is within you.”
