Week 8 of Year 1 "The Forgiven Woman"

❖❖❖❖
The Forgiven Woman

Students may read Luke 7:36–50

When Jesus dined at the home of Simon the Pharisee, an uninvited woman came in.  She went over to Jesus and began to weep. As her tears fell upon Jesus’ feet, she wiped his feet with her hair. Simon was surprised that Jesus allowed this because she was known as a sinful woman. Then, Jesus spoke kindly to the woman, saying, “Your sins are forgiven.” This caused everyone to whisper and question. Again, Jesus spoke saying, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”

Discussion Questions

Why were people astonished when Jesus said the woman’s sins were forgiven? Whenever this story is told, we can appreciate the woman’s great love and gratitude toward Jesus. What can we learn from her about forgiveness?
