Week 9 of Year 1 "The Sower"

❖❖❖❖
Parable of the Sower

Students may read Matthew 13:1-9

A large crowd gathered on the shore to hear Jesus teach. Jesus sat in a boat and told them a parable about a man who scattered seed on the ground for planting. The sower hoped the seed would take root and grow. But some of the seed fell by the wayside and was eaten by birds. Some fell in the rocky places. And some fell among the thorns. Fortunately, other seed fell upon good ground and yielded a great harvest. In conclusion, Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

Discussion Questions

What do you think Jesus meant by this parable? Let’s say the disciples were like the sower. But instead of scattering seed, they preached the truths of the gospel to the people they met. Why would some people be receptive and others not?
