A Sudden Storm

Students may read Mark 4:35–41

When night came, Jesus and his disciples set sail across the Sea of Galilee. Jesus  was very weary, and he fell asleep in the stern of the boat. Suddenly, “a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat.” The disciples struggled to row and became greatly afraid. When Jesus was awakened, he saw what was happening and said, “Peace! Be still!” At that moment, the wind stopped, and all was calm. From then on, it was said of Jesus: “Even the winds and the waves obey him!

Discussion Questions

Can you remember a time when you were afraid during a storm? In this story, Jesus asked the disciples, “Why are you afraid? Where is your faith?” Talk about faith, and consider why faith would help us when we feel afraid.
