The Time of Transition

There is a time of transition in spiritual growth that can be very difficult. It is the time between your first sincere faith reach to God and when you consistently allow him into your life. That transition is the time of our lives when we’ve ceased to rely solely on human strengths and worldly motivations, yet we haven’t thoroughly grasped God’s hand.

Nature provides many analogies of transitions. When a spaceship is launched from earth, the time of pushing through the earth’s atmosphere is turbulent. When the ship reaches space, all is peace. When a woman is giving birth, there is a time called transition, which is the most harrowing. It is the time just before the final stage of the birthing process.

This zone of transition makes us very unsure of ourselves. That is why spiritually growing people feel vulnerable. We feel divided between the ways of the world and the ways of the spiritual realm. Unfortunately, many of us have spent much of our lives in the transition. We’ve acknowledged our need for spiritual growth and lifted up our hands in faith, but we haven’t left the old ways behind. We haven’t entirely entered into the new life of the Spirit. How do we do this?

To you, O lord, I lift up my soul.

O my God, in you I trust

Psalm 25:1–2a
