Reading #14

Higher Desires Thrive

When we let go and let God in, our higher desires are nurtured and the lower desires recede. Thus, the problem of the fluctuating strength of our higher desires is solved. Temptations lose power when they are in the hands of God. The conflict between the higher nature and the lower nature becomes easier to handle. Our desires are adjusted and a new perspective emerges.

Consciousness of the divine presence is unifying. We are no longer divided and at war within ourselves. With God, we experience oneness and wholeness. When the mind is a sanctuary for God, his presence brings peace.

This process, of letting go and letting God in, is like doing the will of God. We surrender our desires to him and then let God’s will into our lives. Doing God’s will is a natural outcome when we are one with him. When we are sharing our inner life with God, we are, in effect, doing God’s will. Therefore, it can be said that our higher desires flourish within the will of God.

O Lord, you will hear the desire of the meek;

you will strengthen their heart,

you will incline your ear

Psalm 10:17
