Reading #13

Let God In

God has always been with you, but now deliberately open yourself to receive his presence. Let God into your conscious mind. When you do this, you are still you, but your mind is filled with God. I like to think that my self inhabits the center of my body, and my mind is a dwelling place for God. When you allow God into your mind, the mind is illuminated by his presence. You become God conscious and spirit filled.

When God is your constant companion, you are sharing your inner life with him. This intimate sharing is more than confiding a few secrets to a friend. It is like sharing a room with that friend, and that room is the mind. Think with God rather than about God. You’re never alone inside your mind.

There have been long periods of time when I wasn’t able to offer my whole mind to God. I literally wasn’t willing to share everything with him. If that is a problem for you as well, clear a space in the center of your mind for God. Then allow God into that center. If you do that, you’ll find the center growing until at last you are able to allow God into your whole mind. Every dark corner of the mind will be enlightened by his presence.

Life will start to change when you do this. The awareness of the divine presence is worth any price. Just the willingness to share your inner life with God can begin this transformation. The desire for spiritual growth will embrace you. You’ll start to see the world differently. You’ll gain a proper perspective on the temptations that have dogged you. Your higher desires will begin to open and grow.

For God alone

my soul waits in silence
