The fifty chapters in this book helped to identify an interfaith spiritual theme for each of the One Page lessons.
Robert E. Hume (1877–1948) taught history of religions at Union Theological Seminary. He was a Congregational minister and had been a missionary in India. Professor Hume selected passages from the sacred scriptures of world religions and placed them into fifty thematic chapters, as follows:
