Jesus on Trial - Part 2

Students may read John 19:1-16

Early Friday morning, the chief priests brought Jesus to Pilate, the Roman governor. Sometime later, a crowd gathered outside and demanded that Jesus be crucified. So, Pilate presented Jesus to the crowd saying, “Behold the Man!” Jesus was wearing a purple robe and a crown of thorns. Throughout this whole ordeal, Jesus said very little and did not defend himself. Pilate said, “I find no crime in him,” but the crowd and the chief priests demanded that he be crucified.

Discussion Questions

Pilate was afraid, so he gave in and sentenced Jesus to death. Then, he washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood.” Why did he do that? How would you describe Jesus’ attitude during this ordeal?
