Peter's Denial
Students may read Luke 22:54-62 and may also read verses 31-34
Soldiers arrested Jesus and took him to the high priest’s palace. Peter followed from afar and gained entrance to the courtyard. As he warmed himself by the fire, a maid and others asked if he was one of Jesus’ followers. But to each one, he denied knowing Jesus. Suddenly a rooster crowed, and Peter realized that Jesus’ words of warning had come true. Then, Peter saw Jesus looking at him as he was being led away by the soldiers. In despair, Peter “went out, and wept bitterly.”
Discussion Questions
During the Last Supper, Jesus warned Peter about this. Why do you think Peter denied knowing Jesus? When we fail to do the right thing, how do we feel? It is good to honestly admit our failures. God can restore us to a feeling of wholeness.
