Women at the Cross
Students may read John 19:16-27
Many people saw what happened during the crucifixion. A group of women believers kept watch while Jesus died upon the cross. In sorrow, they saw how he was mocked by strangers, soldiers, and even by the religious rulers. They heard him say, “I thirst.” They saw his concern for his mother when he placed her under the care of his apostle John. The women beheld his great suffering, which he accepted with steadfast courage. The women were there when he died.
Discussion Questions
People can be courageous in many different ways. How was Jesus courageous during the last day of his life? How were the women courageous? We can remember a Psalm that says, “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart.”
