With the Pharisees - Part 1
Students may read Luke 14:1-14
One Sabbath day, Jesus was invited for a meal at the home of a Pharisee. An uninvited man came in who was suffering from a condition known as dropsy. Jesus asked the guests, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?” No one said anything. Jesus got up and healed the man. Then, he turned to the guests and asked what they would do if one of their animals fell into a well on the Sabbath day. Would anyone not pull the animal out immediately? Again, no one said anything.
Discussion Questions
Why did no one answer when Jesus asked them about helping the fallen animal? What was the purpose of doing no work on the Sabbath? Jesus did not carelessly break the law. He performed an act of kindness, which was greater than the law.
