The Transfiguration - Part 4
Students may read Matthew 17:1-13
Amazing things happened on the Mount of Transfiguration. Peter, James, and John saw Jesus shining in the glory of heavenly light. Then a bright cloud came over them, and they heard a divine voice. All of this greatly frightened the three disciples. When the cloud disappeared, Jesus touched them and said, “Arise, and be not afraid.” As they descended the mountain, Jesus said they should tell no one what they had seen and heard until he had risen from the dead.
Discussion Questions
Jesus often said, “Be not afraid.” Why do we easily become fearful? The disciples probably wanted to tell everyone about this experience, but they obeyed Jesus’ command. Two-thousand years later, what does the Transfiguration mean to us?
