Light of the World
Students may read John 8:12-14 or through verse 30
When Jesus went to Jerusalem for the harvest feast, he taught openly about himself and his mission. He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Then, the Pharisees in the crowd tried to argue with him. Jesus replied, “I know where I came from and where I am going.” Jesus said God also tells them it is true. But most of the Pharisees did not really know Jesus nor did they understand the heavenly Father.
Discussion Questions
What are some images that come to mind when Jesus says, “I am the light of the world”? Have you ever followed a light in the dark? Jesus leads the way, and he also lights the way. His light is life-giving and truth-revealing.
