Escape to Egypt
Students may read Matthew 2
When the three wise men came to Jerusalem, King Herod heard about their quest. He summoned them and said, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” But the wise men did not return, so Herod made a plan to kill all the boy babies in Bethlehem. On the night before this terrible thing happened, Joseph and Mary escaped to Egypt with little Jesus. They stayed in Egypt until the death of Herod.
Discussion Questions
What do you know about the three wise men? Why do you suppose the wise men did not return to King Herod? We know that Herod was not sincere. He pretended to be good, but he had a bad motive. Imagine the journey to Egypt and talk about it.
